Green Universe presents its ambitious plan for a greener and more sustainable United Arab Emirates
DUBAI-Green Universe presented his initiative titled âCreative Solutions for a Green and Sustainable UAE Connectionâ, in which he discussed in detail the environmental, economic, health and social effects of the benefits generated by the implementation of the initiative .
The function was attended by Ermal Dredha, Ambassador of Albania to the United Arab Emirates, Xhabir Hamiti, Ambassador of Kosovo to the United Arab Emirates, Alban Fetahu, Commissioner of the Pavilion of Kosovo Expo Dubai 2020, local media of the United Arab Emirates, a a number of personalities concerned with the environment and green economies and a group of other participants.
He pointed out that the initiative’s objectives overlap with both the âDubai Urban Master Plan 2040â and the âAbu Dhabi Vision 2030â in terms of defining a legal and regulatory framework for urban planning processes. in accordance with global best environmental practices and adding green spaces composed of bamboo, enhancing and preserving the surrounding ecosystems and dedicating high quality healthy lifestyles to the people.
Nikolli, also said that the initiative is not the spur of the moment but rather the result of 3 continuous years of hard and diligent work by the company’s work team in the United Arab Emirates. The team included economic and environmental elites and attended cooperation with leading international universities specializing in environmental sustainability such as the Politecnico di Milano, well known in Italy and Europe for its advanced research on ecosystems, and the University of Turin, whose Department of Life Sciences and Systems Biology is one of the most active and influential environmental research centers.
A number of specialists, including Dr Francesco Pittau, professor at Politecnico Di Milano and Dr Lindita Bande from the University of the United Arab Emirates, reviewed the scientific basis for the initiative, namely the planting of a Giant tropical bamboo green belt on the roads connecting Abu Dhabi and Dubai and the creation of a number of forests surrounding selected residential communities.
These specialists underlined the great importance of choosing bamboo over other plants, building on real and tangible results in the field obtained from previous initiatives in Italy and other countries in Europe where 2 000,000 square meters have been planted with bamboo.
Add to this the Delta Jatropha initiative in Madagascar, in which the company plans to plant green plants, mainly bamboo, in an area of ââmore than 195 million square meters. Before this land was planted with Jatropha and other agricultural plants and our goal now is to change the crop as this helps increase soil fertility, rainfall and tangible environmental results. Finally, the project will help support the lives of 195,000 people economically.
Green Universe also plans to plant 300,000 bamboo squares in Albania.
Dr Fabrizio Pecci from the Italian Bamboo Consortium, partner of Green Universe, pointed out that planting bamboo, which fell under the category of miscellaneous plants, has many advantages. Bamboos include more than 70 main families, from which around 1,200 species are derived, they said, adding that it would make it easier to plant these trees in the UAE, through the extensive use of techniques devised by the company. . At the same time, bamboo stands out from other plants by its ability to absorb 275 tons of carbon dioxide per square hectare and produce 35% more oxygen than other plant options, they added.
Dr Fabrizio referred to research conducted by the University of Punjab, which described bamboo as the food of the future because it is anti-tumor, antibacterial, antiviral and antioxidant, besides having high nutritional value. Bamboo is rich in proteins, carbohydrates and amino acids, as it includes 8 main types of acids as well as minerals, fiber, potassium, calcium, zinc, and vitamins A, B6 and E.
Dr Fabrizio also spoke about the industrial benefits of bamboo, which scientists describe as green steel due to its multiple uses in construction processes, especially villas, furniture, decorations and interior design, in addition of its wide uses in manufacturing industries such as paper and clothing, knowing that it has gained great popularity due to the high quality of the end products used for its manufacture.
Bamboo has many other advantages, including its use as a windscreen and as a noise barrier on roads if it is planted on both sides of the road. It is also used as a flame retardant barrier and plays a key role in improving soil fertility and air purification, not to mention its positive environmental impact.
Green Universe is made up of a group of companies specializing in the green economy and environmental issues. The aim is to help countries create sustainable environmental systems and consolidate the quality of life of their communities in a way that positively reflects all economic, social, health and environmental aspects and helps build a sustainable future for current and future generations.
The group has already established partnerships with major scientific and research establishments dealing with environmental issues such as Politecnico di Milano and the Department of Life Sciences and Systems Biology of the University of Turin. Thanks to the system and methodology that we have developed with our partners, we have all the capabilities to ensure that the tropical giant bamboo forests will obtain fertile conditions to be successful and thrive in the UAE.
