4.2 earthquake March 7 02:41 (GMT +1)

A magnitude 4.2 earthquake occurred in the early morning of Monday, March 7, 2022 at 2:41 a.m. local time near Korçë, Rrethi i Korçës, Qarku i Korçës, Albania, as reported by the network citizen seismographs from RaspberryShake.
According to preliminary data, the earthquake was located at a shallow depth of 10 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones because they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter and depth of the quake could be revised in the coming hours or minutes as seismologists review the data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies release their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the National Observatory of Athens (NOA) which listed the quake at a magnitude of 3.8. Other agencies reporting the same earthquake include the German Geoscience Research Center (GFZ) at magnitude 4.2 and the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) at magnitude 3.8.
Based on preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused significant damage, but was likely felt by many people as a slight vibration in the epicenter area.
Weak tremors could have been felt at Maliq (pop. 3,700) located 20 km from the epicenter, Pogradec (pop. 61,500) at 25 km, Gramsh (pop. 11,600) at 28 km, Korçë (pop. 58,300) at 30 km, and Çorovodë (14,000 inhabitants) at 32 km.
Other towns near the epicenter where the quake could have been felt as a very weak tremor include Petrolia (pop. 18,200) located 46 km from the epicenter, Elbasan (pop. 100,900) 53 km away, Lushnje (pop. 41,500) 68 km away, Patos Fshat (pop. 22,700) 69 km away and Tirana (pop. 374,800) 86 km away.
