“The Albanians are the heirs of ancient Greece”
The so-called historian, Elena Kotsaki, hit a new low after accusing Greece of “stealing the history of other peoples by manipulating it” and declaring that the Albanians are “the only heirs of ancient Greece”.
Responding to a book by Professor Panagiotis Barkas which raises doubts about the Albanians, the origin of Skanderbeg and the national flag of Albania, Kotsaki launched an attack on the author, the book and Greece.
Speaking on a TV show recently, Kotsaki said of Barkas: “He is Albanian, but he is not familiar with historical sources to talk about these things, you have to be a professional historian.”
“It is a political and one-sided book,” she said, asserting that the Albanians are the most genuine people in Europe, ahead of the Greeks, Romans and everyone.
“The Albanians are the descendants of the Illyrians and the Pelasgians,” she said in contradiction with all the studies and research.
“The Albanians were an Orthodox Christian people before the arrival of the Ottomans.
“The historical sources are complete and show that the Albanians are an indigenous people.
“I have also heard doubts about Skanderbeg, but I do not understand this ignorance. It is all done politically to manipulate history.
Seeking a few minutes of publicity, the young self-styled historian also referred to the history of Greece, arguing that “there is no Greek people”, but a Pelasgo-Illyrian identity on both sides. other from the border.
She specifically said: “You cannot be the descendants of the ancient Greeks. The Greeks are related to the Albanians. In the days of Troy, we are told that the Trojans pray with the Greeks.
“We see historical sources and the Greek term is never mentioned, but the authors mention the Illyrian tribes and the Achaeans and Pelasgians, the Greeks are not mentioned.
“What about the Trojan horse and Eleni?” They are Pelasgians.
She even called for a public dialogue with Greek historians and goes so far as to claim that the Albanians should be the only heirs to ancient Greece.
“The history of Greece is false. This is the story of the Arvanites.
“The manipulation took place in the 19th and 20th centuries. Greece and North Macedonia deny being Albanian.
“The only heirs to ancient Greece are the Albanians,” Kotsaki concluded.
Serious historians and scholars may not take her claims seriously, but she has a fanatical nationalist following following her on social media.
